Stuffing is arguably the most delicious part of a Thanksgiving dinner. It’s a staple and a tradition. Whether you choose store-bought or opt for homemade, there are many different Thanksgiving stuffing recipes. You might even have a favorite or a “go to.”
Why not spice up this year’s meal by trying a new Thanksgiving stuffing recipe?
You might be thinking that a new stuffing recipe sounds hard. Perhaps you’re worried that a new stuffing might be risky. Well, this simple, scrumptious stuffing recipe by our Culinary Director Chef Matt Schellig is simple and tasty. So, go ahead, read on and give it a go!
INGREDIENTS:
(We recommend getting these prior to the Wednesday before Turkey Day: remember…many people are preparing for the same meal as you)
- 0.5 lbs butter
- 2 loaves diced bread*
- ½ qt small diced celery
- ½ qt small diced carrots
- ½ qt small diced onions
- ¼ gal chicken stock
- 1 ½ tbs fresh thyme
- ½ tbs fresh rosemary
- ½ tbs cayenne powder
- ½ tbs nutmeg
- 1 ¼ tbs salt
- ½ tbs of pepper
*If you want you can swap out half of the bread with your favorite cornbread!
METHOD:
- Sauté the vegetables in the butter
- Once the veggies are translucent add the bread
- Stir until bread is coated with butter
- Sauté the bread briefly
- Add the chicken stock in stages of two cups
- Let the stock steam as you stir the bread mixture
- Add Fresh Herbs**, Check seasoning and serve***
**Pro tip: Fresh herbs are always added at the end of the cooking process, whereas dry herbs are added at the beginning of the cooking process. This can help develop the flavor in your dish!
***Or make it a day early (this is preferable! There’s plenty of other prep taking up space on Thanksgiving!)
