Dorsey Schools Host Fundraiser For Clarkston SCAMP

Earlier this month, Dorsey Culinary Academy students and staff had the unique opportunity to serve food to hundreds of guests as a fundraiser for Clarkston SCAMP, a five-week summer day camp for children and young adults with special needs.

On Friday, August 2, 15 local restaurants came together at Oakland County Market in Waterford to offer samples of their best recipes, with the indispensable help of Dorsey Schools. Restaurants at “Oakland Uncorked!” included The Root, The Palate of Milford, Peabody’s Dining & Spirits, So Thai, Cacao Tree Cafe, Mongolian Grill, Red Wood Grill, The Bronx Deli and Downtown 51. A variety of wine selections – red and white – were available for patrons to pair with the culinary tastings, such as Michigan’s own “Chateau Chantal.” Jazz artist Miles Brown performed live music while guests wandered around the interior market building and outdoor area.

“It was a wonderful event. Folks came from not only Waterford but regionally – Troy, Auburn Hills, Farmington Hills, Clarkston, Keego Harbor, White Lake, and Birmingham,” says Marie Hauswirth, Executive Director of Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce. Guests, sponsors and Dorsey students alike are looking forward to another successful event next year on August 22, 2014.
