If you are considering pursuing a career as an Electrical technician, training is a very important step. Electrical Technician training programs are designed to provide students with the necessary technical and practical training to enter the skilled trades field.
5 Things You Can Learn in an Electrical Technician Program
Even though each program is different, these are the 5 important things that an electrical technician program can teach you:
Electrical Safety
Electrical Technician programs can teach students safety rules and regulations for electricians. This includes the necessary precautions required for various electrical hazards found on the job as well as proper trade tool applications, use, and maintenance. In addition to these things, students will also be taught basic first aid, CPR, and AED administering techniques. Understanding and following these safety rules and guidelines are essential to success as a professional in the skilled trades.
Electrical Theory
While in an electrical technician training program, students can learn about electrical theories including Ohm’s law, as well as the relationship of atomic theory, electromotive force, and resistance in alternating currents and direct current circuits.
National Electrical Codes
In an electrical technician program, students will have the opportunity to learn the procedure for using and understanding the National Electrical Code book, which covers the components, installation considerations, and NEC requirements for various commercial electrical services. Students are also taught about the requirements for selecting and installing equipment, enclosures, and devices in various special locations.
Trouble Shooting Circuits
Electrical Technician programs can teach students several different applications used in diagnoses and troubleshooting, such as how to use electrical testers. This includes Volt-Ohm meters, phase meters, rotation meters, and heat tracing systems.
Programmable Logic Controllers
Electrical Technician programs may also teach students about the different parts of Programmable Logic Controllers. This includes how they are connected in a closed loop system, how to program in ladder logic format, discrete input/output, and communication troubleshooting procedures.
Remember, while these are the general topics which will be covered in most Electrical Technician training programs, there may be slight differences depending on where you choose to go. If pursuing training as an Electrical Technician sounds like it may be for you, then please be sure to consider your options thoroughly. While classroom instruction is important, the hands-on practical experience is also necessary. Luckily for you, we offer both here at Dorsey Schools.
Electrical Technician training program
The Electrical Technician training program at Dorsey Schools is designed to prepare students to work in industrial, residential, construction, commercial, municipal or the utility industry to install, repair, or maintain a variety of electrical wiring, fixtures, and system equipment. Students enrolled in the Electrical Technician training program at Dorsey Schools will have the opportunity to learn the application of technical electrical skills through the hands-on training, while developing good work habits, which are required to obtain entry-level employment in this field.
Training in the Dorsey Schools Electrical Technician program includes all of the topic described above and more.
The Electrical Technician diploma program is offered at our Dearborn campus (a branch campus of Madison Heights).
