Dorsey School of Beauty Lansing Takes Part In Hair Wars Detroit Event

Dorsey Schools Celebrates Detroit Hair Wars Event 1 1

On Sunday April 17th, students from Dorsey School of Beauty’s Lansing campus took part in Hair Wars Detroit!  The theme of this year’s event was “The Motown Show” and it was held at the Ford Community Performing Arts Center in Dearborn. Hair Wars actually has its origins right here in Michigan (specifically Metro Detroit).  In 1985, local nightclubs starting hosting informal hair shows to give local stylists a way to show off their work.  The idea was born from DJ David Humphries and was originally introduced as a way to keep events lively and fresh in the clubs.  The event continued to grow in popularity year after year and eventually added Beauty Schools, which continued to fuel the popularity of Hair Wars.  In 1994, Hair Wars began to go on the road, hosting its first show in Los Angeles.  Many Detroit-area stylists (along with stylists from around the country) performed in the shows in several major US cities.  Today, Hair Wars hosts shows in Detroit, Columbus, Oakland, San Diego, Chicago, Raleigh, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and even in the Caribbean!

The theme for this year’s Hair Wars event in Metro Detroit was “The Motown Show” paying tribute to Detroit’s “music, cars, and hair stars.”  The event featured over 30 hair stylists and over 250 hair models.  Dorsey School of Beauty’s Lansing campus was among this year’s participants in the event, showcasing a Wizard of Oz theme, which was dubbed, “Wizard of Coz.”  The team from Dorsey School of Beauty did a tremendous job with the hair, make-up and costumes for the event.

Check out some of the pics from the event here as well as in the story featured by the Detroit Free Press.  All of us here at Dorsey Schools want to give a huge shout out to the team of students and instructors from the Lansing campus who took part in Detroit’s Hair Wars event this year – we are so very proud of you and all of your hard work!
